Motor Insurance - Comprehensive Policy

Comprehensive Motor Insurance is the third major category of motor insurance. The basis of the policy is the mandatory third party cover, and it also provides cover for the insureds own motor vehicle.

The insured can claim for all accidents, regardless of who is to blame. If the insured was not at fault, his insurance company would reclaim the money from the party at faults insurance company.

The risk involved in comprehensive insurance is similar to that of third party cover, but the additional compensation amounts would be lower, and are capped by the present value of the car. However, there are often other bonuses attached, such as courtest car etc.

Again, depending on the particular cirucmstances of the driver and his car, this additional aspect of cover would normally be included (with the third party fire & theft cover, i.e. to make up comprehensive cover) for an additional premium of about 15% to 25% more.
