moneyowl is a new concept in personal finance websites - it has been written to help ordinary people make better financial decisions.
To achieve this, we have written a series of personal finance guides that seek to explain the fundamentals of personal finance markets and products. The guides are organised as follows: the core areas of the financial market are identified and assigned a zone (see menu on your left) e.g. borrowing, insurance etc.
Each zone is introduced with a general guide to that area of finance, outlining the most basic principles behind that market. For example the basic guide to borrowing explains general concepts such as APR etc, and the basic guide to insurance explains the ideas such as indeminity etc. Sub-categories of each zone are then identified and assigned a further series of guides. For example, the borrowing zone has a guides on mortgages, credit cards etc and the insurance zone has guides on home insurance, car insurance etc.
If you read these guides you will not be an expert in finance, but we believe you will be able to ask better and more relevant questions about financial products you may wish to evaluate. Clearly, better questions lead to better product evaluation and probably better financial decisions.
Finally, there are products offered for sale related to each zone that you may wish to purchase. We are not qualified to recommend these products, but feel that they may be of interest - hopefully, you will now be able to evaluate them for yourself. If you purchase a product, we will receive a commission - that is how we earn our living. However, you should read our disclaimer and privacy policy.
Money was never a big motivation for me, except as a way to keep the score. The real excitement is playing the game (Donald Trump 1946, Trump: Art of the Deal).
